Senior PHP Developer

As a Senior PHP Developer at Temper, you’ll help evolve our new Symfony platform, the backend for our iOS, Android and web (SPA) apps. You’ll drive core backend features, scale our infrastructure for peak loads, and mentor fellow engineers, all while enjoying the freedom, ownership, and learning culture that define Temper.

What You’ll Do

• Backend Development: Architect, build, and maintain features using Symfony (for our new platform) and migrate from Laravel (used in our legacy platform).

• Data & Search: Design scalable schemas in PostgreSQL and Redis caching.

• Cloud & Containers: Define and troubleshoot Kubernetes deployments, Helm charts, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Observability & Reliability: Collaborate with SREs to expose key metrics and traces, and use Prometheus and Grafana to monitor and improve application performance.

• Messaging Systems: Implement robust event-driven workflows using Google Pub/Sub.

• Quality & Mentorship: Champion clean, maintainable code and help your teammates do the same—through thoughtful PR reviews, coaching, and a pragmatic approach to balancing quality with delivery speed.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, UX, and Data teams to translate needs into elegant and pragmatic solutions.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

• 5+ years professional PHP (7.x/8.x) development.

• Fluent in English, with strong communication skills.

• Expertise in modern backend frameworks (like Symfony)

• Proven experience with SQL and RDBMS (PostgreSQL/MySQL)

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and Helm.

• Solid grasp of Pub/Sub paradigms using Redis and RabbitMQ.

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools, particularly Prometheus for metrics collection and Grafana for visualization and alerting.

• Experience designing large-scale REST APIs.

• Familiarity with frontend frameworks and mobile development.

• Experience with Elasticsearch.

• Background in high-throughput, low-latency systems.

• Exposure to ELK monitoring stacks.
